2006Cadbury Schweppes PGA Junior Golf
Six Junior Golfers from The Taupo Golf Club along with Golf Professional James Funnell recently took part in the Cadbury Schweppes PGA Junior Golf International at the Twin Waters Golf Club 5th -7th December 2006.
Other Kiwi's included Lydia Ko (9yrs - only Kiwi girl) Pupuke GC, Troy Scott with Brent
McKay PGA Golf Professional from TePuke and Scott McAlpine from the North Shore Golf Club in Auckland. Taupo Player Brad Wilson won the Long Drive completion's on both days.
Lydia and Scott were the over all winners of the Cadbury Schweppes International event.
They joined about 80 Juniors from around Australia. On Day One all players arrived at the Twin Waters Resort in the morning then it was off the the Twin Waters Golf Club for a BBQ lunch. After lunch they gathered on the lawn to listen to the stars chat about golf and the tour then it was onto the practice range and practice session with Craig Parry, Peter O'Malley, Adam Scott and Rod Pampli
ng. All juniors were given the opportunity to collect signatures and photos with these Stars.
Day two breakfast 5.45 then off to Nossa Heads golf club for the first round. Lydia coaching stations had been set up and the groups of juniors were rotated through each skill. They had bunker play, putting, rules , practice format,about mentoring, chipping and finally the wedges swing plane.
Day Three an early start again with golf at Twin Waters this time then it was off to Coolum to watch the PGA Championship. The Media Centre was an other interesting place visit.
Finally a Presentation Awards Dinner with heaps of prizes.
